October is not just the start of fall; it’s also a pivotal month for raising awareness about breast cancer. When you think about Breast Cancer Awareness, I’m certain that the first symbol that comes to your head is the pink ribbon. True or False? So simple and yet so influential, calling for hope, support, and the fight against breast cancer. It has now also been indoctrinated into various art forms, not only creating awareness but also fostering a sense of community and solidarity between people.
Let’s go on a quick delve into how this symbol of hope has been embraced by artists and its impact on raising awareness.
THE EVOLUTION
Before getting into how it has been embraced by artists, let’s go back in time for a bit – The pink ribbon was first introduced in the early 1990’s by the Susan G. Komen’s foundation as a symbol of breast cancer awareness; not to long after it became more than just a symbol but a uniform for solidarity, hope and community. As it gained popularity, it started appearing in different art forms with various interpretations.
