This exquisite and whimsical bronze sculpture has been masterfully crafted by the talented Burkinabe artist, Hamidou Ouedraogo.
Bronze work is a time-honored tradition in Burkina Faso. The term 'bronze' encompasses a range of alloys derived from copper, zinc, lead, and tin, with varying proportions. Today, the bronze used is often repurposed from recycled items like old water taps or components from air conditioning systems.
The artist initiates the creative process by sculpting a wax prototype, which is then enveloped in a unique mixture of clay and dung and left to dry. The mold is subsequently heated, allowing the wax to melt and escape through openings, leaving behind a void. The molten alloy is poured into this space, replacing the wax. After the alloy cools and solidifies, the mold is carefully broken to reveal the sculpture, allowing for the final artistic touches. Each piece is, therefore, a distinctive work of art.
- Artist: Hamidou Ouedraogo
- Material: Bronze
- Height: Approximately 20 cm
- Weight: Approximately 1 kg
For those ordering multiple pieces, our default practice is to offer an assortment of colours unless otherwise specified.
Every piece is skilfully handcrafted and sourced through fair trade practices in Burkina Faso, ensuring that your purchase supports both artistic expression and sustainable livelihoods.
